City walk
Wanganui is a city famous well known for art, beautiful riverside and architecture. We have an old paddle steamer, a lookout tower, glass blowing studio, galleries, the weekly farmers market at the river side is a very popular event too.
Here are some options to make your stay a great experience:
College House Backpackers is located conveniently in the City center. This gives you the opportunity to explore the nearer and wider area easily.
River
You can experience the river having a nice walk or run around the bridges, starting your walk directly from the hostel. Other option is to try out kayaking for a reasonable fee. We cooperate with the local holiday park, they bring you up the river for a few kilometers and you enjoy paddeling downstream.
Beaches
We have three nice beaches which you can reach per bike. We offer bike rental for a “gold coin donation” only, so you just do a little donataion to keep the bikes up and running. Talk to the reception to book your bike, we provide helmet and lock as well.
Excursions in the wider envrionment
If you have a car, you can explore the wider environment. There are several options for hikes, visit of famous bushy park and botanic garden.
